As a child, Gangshar Rinpoche had very elegant appearance and kind character. He was talented and surprised his teachers with the ability of mastering the knowledge in an unexpected progress. When he was 9 years old, he was recognized by Dilgo Kyentse Rinpoche as reincarnation of great master Khenpo Gangshar. When 11 years old he was enthroned at the Shechen monastery where he received complete teachings and practices of Buddhism. He is considered to be the continuation of many great masters from the past, for example Milarepa.
Gangshar Rinpoche helped to spread and promote Buddhism in Tibet and other parts of China, he accepted many students and supported various monasteries. Since the year 2004, all of his time is dedicated to establishing the Shechen Charity Orphan School.
About Shechen monastery
Shechen monastery, one of the six main Nyingmapa monasteries, is located in Shechen Village, Dege County in Sichuan Province. It was established in the year 1731. The complete name is Shechen Tannyi Dhargye Ling Monastery”, meaning “Stream of saints of open and secret Buddhism”. Many famous accomplished masters studied and practiced there in isolation. Also the monastery is a place for monks to learn Buddhism. Presently, more than 500 monks study and exercise here. Throughout the country there are more then 300 branches of Shechen monastery.
